What You Need

18-gauge green cloth-covered florists wireWire cuttersGlue stickAcrylic yarn (we used taupe, gray, aqua, seafoam green, light tan, and dark tan)Liquid starchDisposable rimmed platePlastic wrap1⁄8 yard tan linen18-inch-diameter grapevine wreathHot-glue gun and glue sticks18-inch length of ribbon

Step 1: Wrap Yarn

Use a glue stick to apply glue to end of green cloth-covered florist’s wire. Secure yarn approximately 1 inch from wire end on glued area. Wrap yarn tightly around the wire to cover the 1-inch end.

Step 2: Wrap Yarn Again

When wire end is reached, begin wrapping yarn back to beginning; continue wrapping toward opposite end of wire. Apply glue to opposite end, wrap yarn over glue, and then back about 1⁄2 inch from end. Glue end in place, and trim yarn end.

Step 3: Cut Yarn

Cut seventy-five 3-inch-long pieces of yarn. Tie one length of yarn onto the yarn-wrapped wire, approximately 2 inches from one end.

Step 4: Tie Yarn to Wire

Continue tying tightly spaced yarn lengths onto the wire until the wire is covered to the tip; leave the 2-inch end uncovered.

Step 5: Soak in Liquid Starch

Pour liquid starch onto a disposable rimmed plate. Soak the yarn-wrapped wire in the liquid starch until thoroughly wet.

Step 6: Shape Feather

Remove from liquid starch, squeeze out excess, and lay the soaked wrapped yarn on plastic wrap. Shape into a feather. Let the feather dry until very stiff. Repeat the steps to make desired number of feathers. Editor’s Tip: You can use one color or multiple colors of yarn per feather. It’s up to you to design the look of your wreath.

Step 7: Trim Feather

Cut a 9-inch-long piece of 18-gauge green cloth-covered florists wire. Trim feather edges as desired, cutting a few of the yarn ties shorter for a realistic look.

Step 8: Make Accent Flower

Cut a 3x42-inch strip from linen. Cut 1-3⁄4-inch-deep fringe spaced 1⁄2-inch apart along one long edge of the linen. Roll one short end of the linen strip tightly; securing with hot glue as you roll. Continue rolling and gluing the strip to make the accent.

Step 9: Attach Feathers and Flower

Glue feathers and accent flower to wreath. Tie ribbon around top of wreath for a hanging loop.
